"account": "In a fan poll conducted by French magazine France Football, Cristiano Ronaldo's 2008 Ballon d'Or-winning season has been declared the greatest in the history of the prestigious individual football award. The results, announced on Wednesday, followed the main 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony two days earlier, placing Ronaldo ahead of Lionel Messi's 2012 campaign. Ronaldo's 2008 season with Manchester United saw him score 42 goals across all competitions, secure the Premier League title, and win the UEFA Champions League. He also topped the league as the top scorer with 31 goals and claimed the European Golden Shoe for his outstanding performances. These achievements earned him 446 points from 96 journalists, far surpassing Messi's 2012 total. The fan poll, which focused on individual award-winning campaigns, invited supporters to select the greatest among players who had won the Golden Ball at least twice. Ronaldo's 2008 campaign, nearly two decades after he first won the award, was highlighted as a testament to his enduring impact and the lasting rivalry with Messi, who also holds multiple Ballon d'Or titles.",
