"account": "Real Madrid has formally apologized to China over remarks made by forward Kylian Mbappé referencing Mao Zedong. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Spanish club expressed its deepest regret for any discomfort caused by the player's comments. Real Madrid stated it holds deep respect for China, its history, culture, and citizens, as well as for Chinese fans who admire the club. The club affirmed its alignment with the player's public apology and reaffirmed its commitment to cultural respect, coexistence, and understanding. The controversy emerged from Mbappé's appearance on the French podcast The Bridge, where he referred to an image of Mao Zedong in a meme. This sparked significant backlash in China, where Mao is an esteemed figure. Chinese broadcaster CCTV reportedly halted LaLiga broadcasts, and several Chinese firms, such as Dongpeng Beverage, Mengniu, and Milkground, ended endorsement contracts with the French player. Mbappé issued a personal apology, calling his comment \"ill-judged\" and acknowledging the hurt it caused. LaLiga also apologized, with President Javier Tebas reportedly meeting the Chinese Ambassador in Spain to address the diplomatic and commercial repercussions.",
