"account": "The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that all inmates being transported to court in Rivers State were safely returned to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Port Harcourt following an attack on their escort vehicle on October 27, 2026. The attack took place in the Oil Mill Market area along Aba Road, where the transport vehicle reportedly encountered a traffic holdup and was allegedly assaulted by individuals. NCoS spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Corrections, J.N. Osuji, disclosed that the armed escort team fired warning shots into the air to deter the attackers and safeguard the inmates. The service expressed its sympathies to the victim's family and the affected individuals, condemning the incident and warning that such actions endanger lives and obstruct legitimate duties. The NCoS urged the public to maintain restraint and respect law enforcement operations, pledging full cooperation with relevant authorities in the investigation to establish the incident's circumstances and assign responsibility.",
