"account": "Erin Patterson, a triple murderer, will learn the outcome of her appeal against a life sentence on Friday. The appeal, heard by Victoria's Court of Appeal, could result in a re-trial, acquittal, or no change to her current sentence. Patterson laced beef Wellingtons with death cap mushrooms in 2023, causing three deaths and one hospitalization. Her appeal centered on alleged irregularities in jury sequestration, trial judge errors, and unfair cross-examination by prosecutors. If successful, the Court of Appeal may order a re-trial or acquittal. A loss would leave Patterson, 52, with limited legal avenues to contest her conviction. Prosecutors also appealed her life sentence, deeming it inadequate due to the possibility of parole in 2056. If upheld, Patterson will face re-sentencing. She was convicted of murdering her in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, along with Gail's sister, Heather Wilkinson. Prosecutors claim Patterson never intended to poison her guests.",
