"account": "The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced plans to publish the preliminary register of voters for Nigeria's 2027 general elections online, following requests from citizens and stakeholders for increased access to the document. In a statement signed by INEC Chairman Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the commission said the move would supplement the existing physical display of the register at Registration Areas. INEC acknowledged concerns raised by Nigerians and others about making the preliminary register accessible digitally, stating that the additional step aims to facilitate wider public access and align with the Electoral Act, 2026. The commission is currently processing claims and objections from the ongoing electoral process and expressed gratitude for the ongoing interest and constructive engagement from citizens and stakeholders. INEC emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of credible elections. The decision to publish the preliminary register online follows INEC's warning on October 3 about a fake online voter registration portal, reminding citizens to only use authorized platforms for electoral information and discouraging the sharing of personal data on fraudulent websites.",
