"account": "In a historic moment for English football, Harry Kane has been named the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner, fulfilling a 25-year ambition for his country. The Bayern Munich striker defeated Lamine Yamal of Barcelona and Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid to claim the prestigious individual award for the first time in his career. Kane's remarkable season saw him net a staggering 73 goals in just 65 appearances for both club and country, with 61 of those coming while playing for Bayern Munich. His outstanding form not only helped Bayern Munich secure the Bundesliga title but also led England to third place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.\n\nInterestingly, Kane becomes the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001, a record that preceded notable English winners like Stanley Matthews (1956), Bobby Charlton (1966), and Kevin Keegan (1978 and 1979). This achievement places Kane among an elite group of five English footballers to have won the award. The victory is particularly significant for Kane, who spent much of his career at Tottenham Hotspur without securing any major trophies. His transfer to Bayern Munich in 2023 changed the narrative for him, and now, he has added one of the biggest accolades in football to his collection.\n\nThe ceremony was a night to remember for Kane, who also took home the Gerd Müller Trophy as the best striker of the year. His exceptional goal-scoring numbers made him one of the frontrunners heading into the event. Barcelona's Lamine Yamal secured the Kopa Trophy for the third consecutive year, while Alexia Putellas claimed her third women's Ballon d'Or in a row. For Kane, however, the spotlight was firmly on him as he finally received the recognition he deserved after years of goal-scoring and chasing major honours.",
