"account": "The FBI arrested a former CIA contractor, Ian Brinksman, on Friday for allegedly leaking classified defense and Middle East-related information to a journalist. Brinksman, who had Top Secret security clearance, worked for a US government agency in Virginia since 2020 and was hired as a contractor by the same agency in 2022. The criminal complaint alleges that Brinksman had an ongoing personal relationship with an individual, \"Individual 1,\" who published articles online based on classified government intelligence assessments. Emails and phone calls between Brinksman and Individual 1 show that he was providing classified information to the journalist, who published articles on Substack, including details from at least five Top Secret intelligence reports. These reports covered topics such as Israel, US-Israel relations, and the conflict with Iran. Brinksman was not authorized to share such information outside his work scope.",
"summary": "Brinksman is accused of sharing information from at least five top secret reports, including material that “reasonably could be expected to cause exceptionally grave damage to national security.\"",
