"account": "Walter Koenig, the actor renowned for portraying Russian crew member Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek franchise, has passed away at the age of 90, according to TMZ. His death on Sunday was attributed to natural causes, as confirmed by family and a representative for Koenig. Koenig's career in Star Trek began in the show's second season, where he played Chekov in 36 out of the 50 episodes aired between 1967 and 1969. He reprised his role as Chekov in seven Star Trek feature films, including the reboot film Star Trek: Generations. Koenig voiced the character in subsequent Star Trek video games such as Star Trek Online and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Actor Anton Yelchin succeeded Koenig in the role of Chekov in the 2009 Star Trek reboot and its sequels, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. Koenig was one of the last surviving actors from the original Star Trek crew, following the deaths of DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Majel Barrett, Leonard Nimoy, Grace Lee Whitney, and Nichelle Nichols. The Star Trek franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary in September, with the original series premiering on September 6, 1966. The franchise has evolved through live-action films, television series, and animated spinoffs, with two Star Trek series currently airing, set to conclude in 2027.",
