"account": "American singer Chris Brown avoided prison time on Monday after a UK court gave him an eight-month suspended sentence for his role in a 2023 nightclub brawl. The judge ruled that the sentence against the former boyfriend of music star Rihanna would be suspended for a year, barring Brown from jail unless he commits another offense during that period. Wearing a black mask, sunglasses, and baseball cap, Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London, where he had pleaded guilty to affray at a July court appearance. The judge stated that violence of this nature in a crowded nightclub poses a significant risk to not only the victim but also others. Prosecutors accused Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu of a vicious and unprovoked attack where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice. Brown, who has sold tens of millions of records worldwide, had previously denied the charges. The incident occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape, a private members club in London, during Brown’s tour in Britain. The victim, a music producer, was struck multiple times with a bottle before being pursued, punched, and kicked. Akinlolu, also a US national, received a four-month suspended sentence for the same offense. The judge emphasized that while the attack was not premeditated, it was still serious violence that occurred in a crowded nightclub. London’s Metropolitan Police spokesperson Christina Jessah stated that the attack was inexcusable and left the victim hospitalized. Despite the passage of time, the police were determined to ensure those responsible faced justice. Brown was released on a £5 million guarantee last May, enabling him to continue his global tour, which was his highest-grossing tour according to Billboard. Upon leaving the court, Brown received cheers from fans, posed for photos, and later shared a thumbs-up video on Instagram. Known for mid-2000s hits like \"Kiss, Kiss\" and a history of legal troubles, including a 2009 felony conviction for assaulting Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards, Brown rose from a church choir in Virginia to sudden fame with his powerful R&B voice.",
