"account": "Daughter of former FBI director James Comey, Maurene Comey was wrongfully terminated from her federal prosecutor position in New York, according to a federal judge's ruling on Monday. Judge Jesse Furman stated that Comey, who spent a decade as an assistant US attorney, was unlawfully dismissed in July 2025 despite her exceptional work on numerous high-profile cases and consistently receiving top marks from her supervisors and colleagues. Following her termination, Comey filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department and others, contending that her firing violated the separation of powers, the First Amendment, and the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. She argued that her dismissal was likely due to her relationship with James Comey and her perceived political affiliation or beliefs. However, Judge Furman dismissed the government's claim that Comey could be fired due to federal prosecutors' \"conclusive and preclusive\" power. Furman emphasized that accepting the government's argument would undermine the nation's constitutional system, as it goes against nearly two centuries of Supreme Court precedent. The Justice Department has yet to comment on the ruling.",
