In the tournament, Bigirimana won his first three bouts before narrowly losing the final by a single point to a competitor from Kokusai Karate Club. Despite this loss, his performance earned him a silver medal, showcasing his ability to balance academic commitments with athletic prowess. Ashesi Karate Dojo coach Dickson Acolatse lauded Bigirimana's accomplishment, emphasizing the significance of consistency and determination in achieving excellence. According to Acolatse, \"Kevin’s silver-medal achievement is proof that with consistency and determination, students can pursue excellence both academically and in sports.\" He further noted that academic excellence and sporting achievement are not mutually exclusive and both can be developed simultaneously. The Japanese Ambassador's Cup Karate-do Championships serves as a platform for karate athletes from various backgrounds to compete and exhibit their skills and discipline.",
