"summary": "The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that artificial intelligence will not determine the outcome of the 2027 general election. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, stated at the AI and Democracy Forum 2026 in Abuja that the choice of who leads the country belongs to the electorate. While acknowledging the use of AI in some of the technologies used by the commission, such as facial recognition and fingerprint technologies for voter accreditation, Amupitan emphasized that AI will not and must never decide the 2027 votes. INEC is utilizing AI-driven geospatial analysis and predictive modelling to improve election logistics and meet its operational demands, with a dedicated AI division within its Information and Communication Technology Department to support result verification and strengthen cybersecurity ahead of the 2027 elections.",
