"account": "Former NBA player Malik Beasley is negotiating a plea deal with the Department of Justice in connection to gambling charges. Beasley, 29, entered a not guilty plea in July and was among six people charged in a federal gambling investigation. The indictment details how Beasley allegedly altered his performance in four games during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024 to benefit sports bettors and reduce his debts. His attorney, Steve Haney, confirmed ongoing negotiations with the government. Co-defendant Paolo Zamorano, Beasley's former sports agent, also pleaded not guilty. The investigation has led to more than three dozen arrests, and Beasley is accused of fixing or attempting to fix his performance for bettors in exchange for debt relief from his former teammate and co-defendant, Ed Davis. Beasley borrowed money from Davis, who allegedly acted as a \"gatekeeper\" in the alleged scheme. Beasley has faced significant financial issues, including disputes with various service providers and a $1 million default judgment from a 2025 lawsuit.",
"summary": "Beasley previously pled not guilty, but a plea deal is expected in the coming days.",
