"summary": "Jeffrey George Ewert, a convicted murderer who has been attending law courses at McGill University in Montreal since September, is back in custody. Authorities are reportedly looking more closely at his case following the controversy surrounding his presence at the university.\n\nAccording to Global News, Ewert is a British Columbia man in his 60s who was convicted in the 1980s of second-degree murder and attempted murder involving violent attacks against two female victims, one of whom was 15 years old. He spent 40 years in federal prison and was granted day parole in 2025.\n\nGlobal News reports that Ewert has since been barred from the McGill campus after news of his studies spread in early October. Retired judge and former prosecutor Rick Miller told Global News that Ewert was \"the most brutal and evil\" individual he dealt with during his time prosecuting the case 40 years ago.",
