"account": "The Metropolitan Police of London informed Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in early 2019 about allegations concerning her father, according to the police force. The letter, which contained claims of alleged misconduct outside of the UK, was sent to Meghan after she allegedly received information about these allegations prior to her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. The Metropolitan Police explicitly stated that they did not share this letter with any other law enforcement agencies. The allegations against Thomas Markle, 82, were reported by the Daily Mail, who quoted him as saying the accusations were false and \"sick lies\". Meghan expressed that the news was \"very distressing\" and had been informed by British police of a letter containing allegations about her father in 2018. The Met Police reviewed their systems and records, confirming they received the letter in January 2019 and decided to pass it to the Sussexes for their awareness. The Sussexes' spokesperson acknowledged that Meghan may have been mistaken about the date she received the letter, and the Met's record should be considered the accurate reference point. The police force is currently evaluating whether a referral to the police watchdog might be necessary to review its handling of the situation.",
