"account": "The Minority Caucus in Ghana's Parliament is demanding that GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi resign over comments allegedly suggesting that small-scale miners can operate without proper licenses and permits. The Caucus has also called for an apology, government sanctions, and a plan from President John Mahama to combat illegal mining, or \"galamsey.\" Ranking Member Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong stated that Gyamfi should step down immediately if he refuses to resign, in order to restore the institution's credibility. The Caucus questioned the legitimacy of mining operations outside restricted areas, comparing them to activities in sensitive locations like schools, churches, and hospitals. They argued that Gyamfi's comments contradict the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, and urged the government to address galamsey issues in line with the law. The Caucus outlined demands for accountability, including a thorough audit of GoldBod's operations and a state of emergency in high-risk areas. They called for the formalization of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat and emphasized the need for transparency and government action to tackle illegal mining.",
