"account": "The Arbhaat Short Film Club, established by filmmaker Umesh Kulkarni around 15 years ago, has been instrumental in providing a platform for independent cinema in Pune. Held at venues such as Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan in Sangamwadi and The Box 2 in Karvenagar, the club features five short films screened every month across Pune, with recent editions held on October 17 and 18. These films, ranging from nostalgic stories of childhood pen fights to themes of caste and identity, highlight the diversity of subjects explored by filmmakers outside of mainstream cinema. The club's founder, Kulkarni, who studied at FTII, emphasises the artistic value of short films, which allow experienced artists to experiment with unconventional subjects and styles without the pressure of commercial success. The club's screenings have also reached Nashik and Parbhani, offering a wider cultural appreciation of film. Notable films showcased include Obur, recognised for its best script at the National Film Awards, and Lavatory Lovestory, an animated short nominated for an Oscar. The club's events foster discussions between filmmakers and audiences, aiming to build a lasting space for independent cinema in the city.",
