"account": "Paul Schrader, the esteemed writer-director, will be honored with the Ojai Film Festival's inaugural Storyteller Award and will introduce his latest film, \"The Basics of Philosophy,\" November 8th at the Ojai Art Center Theater. Schrader's acceptance of this prestigious award comes after a special screening of Martin Scorsese's classic \"Taxi Driver,\" marking its 50th anniversary, on November 7th at Chaparral Auditorium.\n\nThe Storyteller Award, bestowed upon Schrader, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to cinema by challenging the status quo and shaping the film industry. In a statement to TheWrap, Schrader expressed his excitement about receiving the award and introducing \"The Basics of Philosophy,\" stating, \"I’ve always been an admirer of the Ojai Film Festival, and I’m very happy to be presenting my newest film.\"\n\nJack Huston plays the role of John Jorrisen, a philosophy professor at a Midwestern college who embarks on a life-altering journey when his wealthy, estranged father's death disrupts his existence. The film delves into profound questions of absolution and atonement, with Huston delivering a haunting performance as a man grappling with his past transgressions and his desire for forgiveness. Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the project, alongside a talented ensemble cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Dana Delany, Karl Glusman, and Shiloh Fernandez.\n\nSchrader's storytelling prowess is well-documented, having written several films directed by Scorsese, including \"Raging Bull,\" \"The Last Temptation of Christ,\" and \"Bringing Out the Dead.\" His directing credits are equally impressive, encompassing groundbreaking works such as \"American Gigolo,\" \"Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters,\" \"Affliction,\" and \"The Card Counter.\" Schrader received an Academy Award nomination for his original screenplay in \"First Reformed\" and was posthumously honored with the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.",
