"account": "On October 22, Rubén Blades received the prestigious Billboard Icon Award at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards. This recognition honors artists whose careers have remained relevant over time while also being celebrated globally for their musical and commercial achievements. Blades expressed gratitude to Billboard magazine, acknowledging the honor bestowed upon him as a Latin American artist. He credited the success of his career to the support of numerous collaborators, family, friends, mentors, and various cultural influences. Blades highlighted his collaborations with groups such as Papi Arosemena and Conjunto Latino, Tito Cowes and Combo Impacto, and many others, as well as his appreciation for his wife, Luba, and colleagues. He referenced the late Mexican singer Pedro Vargas, echoing Vargas' words of gratitude, before reciting \"gracias\" in the style of Panamanian percussionist Raúl \"Toto\" Rivera. Blades, a prominent figure in the salsa revolution of the 1970s, has been influential in redefining salsa by blending rock, jazz, pan-Latin music, and international sounds. His socially conscious lyrics and memorable characters have turned everyday life stories into timeless music. Notably, Blades' songs like \"Pedro Navaja,\" \"Decisiones,\" and \"El Padre Antonio y Su Monaguillo Andrés\" remain classics. In addition to his music career, Blades is also an actor and former politician.",
