"account": "On October 23, a powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the remote Tibetan region of China, leaving at least 16 people dead and 32 injured, according to state news agency Xinhua. The quake, which struck at 10:33 pm local time, caused over 300 houses to collapse. The epicenter was situated in a mountainous area approximately 190 kilometers east-northeast of Nagqu and 390 kilometers northeast of Lhasa, the regional capital, as reported by the US Geological Survey. The tremor originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, triggering a level-II earthquake disaster emergency response in the affected area. Township deputy head Lhawang Dagpo confirmed that the quake was clearly felt in Maru township, located within Baqen county, where the township office suffered cracks in its walls. Power and telecommunications services were disrupted in the county seat, as reported by Xinhua. While earthquakes in China are not uncommon, a similar incident in January 2025 claimed the lives of at least 126 people in Tibet's rural Tingri county.",
