"account": "The International Criminal Court (ICC) has been honored with the European Union’s top rights prize, the Sakharov Prize, despite facing sanctions from the United States. European Parliament chief Roberta Metsola emphasized the importance of the court upholding international law and justice. The ICC expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that it carries particular significance under the current circumstances. The United States has imposed sanctions on the ICC to disrupt its operations, which are set to take effect in six months. The ICC President, Tomoko Akane, highlighted the importance of independent judicial institutions in the face of such pressures. This comes after former ICC judge Navi Pillay received the Nobel Peace Prize, a decision President Donald Trump criticized. The EU has pledged its support to the ICC and is prepared to take necessary measures to ensure its continued operation. The EU prize, awarded annually since 1988, recognizes individuals or organizations fighting for human rights or democracy. This year, the ICC was among three finalists, alongside Tanzania's opposition leader Tundu Lissu and Iranian twin sisters Taraneh and Romina Rahimi.",
