"summary": "Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola, Chairman of the Nigerian Tertiary Education and Research Analysis Committee, predicts that Nigerian universities will break global ranking records from 2027. This projection is based on increased competition among institutions, rising research citations, and a new national ranking framework introduced by the Federal Government. The mandatory national ranking exercise, which came into effect on September 1, 2026, has intensified competition among federal, state, and private universities, encouraging them to showcase their performance in teaching, research, and community service. Additionally, the growing participation of academics in platforms like Google Scholar is expected to improve the international standing of Nigerian universities, as research output and citations are important components of international university ranking systems.",
