"account": "The Federal Government has called on passengers who traveled with a woman confirmed to have the Ebola virus disease in Nigeria's capital region to cooperate with health authorities during contact tracing efforts. The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, announced that 44 contacts have been identified so far following the laboratory confirmation of the case on October 20, 2026. The patient had arrived from Uganda on an international flight and began showing symptoms on October 7. Her condition deteriorated, leading to laboratory confirmation of the infection on October 11. She is currently in isolation receiving medical care. Contact tracing is crucial as the time between symptom onset and infection confirmation makes identifying exposed individuals challenging. Pate urged those contacted by public health teams to provide requested information and follow official guidance, warning of the risk of cross-border transmission of Ebola in light of recent developments in East Africa. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has increased surveillance and is strengthening preparedness through various measures.",
