"account": "The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold fresh congresses to replace candidates who have defected from the party following the resignation of Bauchi State governorship candidate, Ibrahim Kashim. The NDC made this statement in the wake of Kashim's resignation, which has sparked speculation that he may join the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement issued in Abuja, the NDC's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, indicated that the party would replace defectors in affected constituencies through fresh elections, citing provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026. The Director emphasized that candidates who have defected lack the values, virtues, and ideological commitment associated with the NDC and urged them to leave. Although the Director did not identify the candidates involved, a source close to the party confirmed that Kashim was the principal figure in this development, and other Bauchi NDC candidates might also defect. Kashim announced his resignation after careful reflection, stating that his decision did not diminish his commitment to political reform and socio-economic advancement in Bauchi State. The NDC urged its members and supporters not to be discouraged by the alleged inducements and accused the APC of attempting to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.",
