"account": "The Federal Government has demanded a balance between workers' demands for higher salaries and the country's financial capacity, as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) approaches a two-week ultimatum to reduce petrol prices and commence new discussions on the national minimum wage. NLC President Joe Ajaero reiterated that his earlier ultimatum remains in effect, emphasizing that the government should act before industrial conflicts arise. The Government's Secretary, George Akume, highlighted the need for wage decisions to reflect economic conditions while safeguarding workers' welfare. He stressed that the commission must strike a balance between workers' legitimate expectations, government fiscal realities, and Nigeria's national economic development. Akume identified evidence-based wage policies, institutional modernisation, and effective implementation of recommendations as three priorities for the commission. He also warned against avoidable industrial disputes and called for a credible, inclusive approach to governance to maintain stability.",
