"account": "Rev Mobolade Omonijo, a respected journalist and member of The Nation Editorial Board, has passed away at the age of 63, according to the Diocese of Lagos West. Omonijo, who served as the Vicar of the Church of Pentecost, Dopemu, Lagos, succumbed to a brief illness on October 15, 2026. The diocese described him as a devoted member of its Media and Publicity Department, praising his meekness, lovability, conscientiousness, articulateness, assiduity, and meticulousness. Omonijo had spent nearly four decades in journalism before joining The Nation in 2008, where he held various roles, including the Group Political Editor. He was also a former journalist at The Economist and Vanguard. The diocese expressed deep sorrow over his loss, urging prayers for his children and family. Omonijo's colleagues and superiors at The Nation, such as Sam Omatseye, the Editorial Board Chairman, remembered him as a professional, thorough, and fair reporter who brought a critical perspective to their discussions. Omatseye emphasized that Omonijo's loss is difficult to comprehend, praising his professionalism, contributions, and unique blend of seriousness and humor.",
