"account": "Mombasa court to deliver verdict on Kenyan cult leader Paul Mackenzie and associates accused of murdering 191 people, mostly children, in Shakahola Forest Massacre. Mackenzie alleged to have incited followers to starve to death to meet Jesus. Mackenzie and associates pleaded not guilty to 191 counts of murder in 2024, also denying manslaughter and terrorism charges. Hundreds of bodies discovered since 2023 at cult base inland from Malindi beach resort, bringing total to over 400. Relatives of victims in court, expressing anger over government inaction. Prosecution alleges Mackenzie initiated extreme fasting at 800-acre ranch in Shakahola Forest, claiming structured hierarchy of death with children to die first. Case exposed using circumstantial evidence, hearsay accounts, inconclusive forensic findings. Mackenzie arrested in April 2023 after rights group tipped off authorities, initial operation rescued some followers. Some victims still unidentified.",
