"account": "Mahela Jayawardene has stepped down as the head coach of Mumbai Indians after the 2026 IPL season, prompting a search for a replacement. The decision came after a disappointing campaign for the franchise, who finished ninth in the league and failed to make the playoffs. Jayawardene, who had returned to the role in 2024 to replace Mark Boucher, guided the team to fourth place in 2025 before the slump in 2026. The franchise has not disclosed the reasons behind the decision, but the poor results played a part. Jayawardene expressed gratitude for his time with the team, praising their calm leadership and love for the game. Reports suggest Mumbai has drawn up a shortlist of candidates, though the club has not yet announced the successor. The retention deadline and IPL 2027 mini-auction are looming, leaving little time for the new coach to prepare.",
