"summary": "Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty confirmed on Saturday that fatalities and injuries occurred during a serious incident involving a major fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. The base is located approximately 210km east of Edmonton. McGuinty did not provide specific casualty figures or details regarding the cause of the incident, describing the situation as \"very, very active and delicate.\"\n\nThe Canadian military and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the incident. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the national government is working closely with local authorities and the Government of Alberta. General Jennie Carignan, chief of Canada’s Defense Staff, noted that the Canadian forces are fully engaged with federal, provincial, and local authorities to coordinate the emergency response.\n\nThe Municipal District of Wainwright reported that the fire crossed the base fence into the nearby district and was spreading rapidly due to high winds. While the community of Wainwright is providing firefighting and hospital support, no evacuation orders have been issued.",
