"account": "On a subway platform in midtown Manhattan, an argument on Saturday turned deadly, resulting in the fatal shooting of one man and disrupting train service. The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. at the station located at 7th Avenue and 53rd Street, near several Broadway theaters and Carnegie Hall. Police discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound to his chest. It is believed the altercation involved two or three men. Emergency responders arrived and transported the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No arrests had been made at the time of the report. Trains that typically stop at that station were temporarily rerouted as the police investigation unfolded. New York City has seen a consistent decline in violent crime since a surge during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and deadly incidents inside the subway system are uncommon despite the extensive usage by millions of daily commuters. As of mid-October, the city was on track to record its lowest tally of homicides in decades, with reported killings down by 20% compared to the same period last year.",
