"summary": "US Central Command spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated that the vast majority of Iranian attempts to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz have failed and that the waterway remains open. According to Middle East Eye, Hawkins told Fox News that approximately 97 percent of vessels attempting to cross the strait have done so without being struck, noting that many have had US military protection. Hawkins described the actions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran as unjustified and unsuccessful in their objective to close the strait.\n\nAjel English reported that Hawkins noted US forces have prevented Iran from carrying out export or import operations, allowing only humanitarian aid ships to pass. Earlier, the Iranian navy reported detecting several fires on oil tankers in recent days. The Iranian navy described these as violating ships that attempted to cross restricted areas without following warnings to keep their electronic equipment operational.",
