"summary": "Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Saturday that he will not seek to remain in office once his current term expires in 2030. Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital, Sisi described the matter as \"completely settled\" and stated that there would be no discussion regarding it.\n\nDawn reports that the 71-year-old former army general, who became president in 2014, said the Egyptian constitution \"would not be touched.\" Haaretz notes that the president's remarks reject speculation that the constitution could be amended to extend his rule.\n\nUnder constitutional amendments approved in a 2019 referendum, presidential terms were extended from four to six years. Sisi was re-elected in 2023 for a six-year term that concludes in 2030.",
