"summary": "Katie Zacharia has left her role as White House press secretary after five days, according to Newsweek. Her departure follows a first week at the podium that included a 14-minute appearance before the press corps on Oct. 13, during which she took questions from Breitbart News, Fox News, and the Daily Mail before directing reporters to ask the president questions. TheWrap reports her departure occurred on a Friday, following an instance where Donald Trump urged her to reconsider the opportunity after a \"sordid\" first week.\n\nZacharia's brief tenure sets a new record for the shortest stint as press secretary, surpassing the previous record held by Anthony Scaramucci, who served as communications director for 10 or 11 days in 2017. Responding to the news on X, Scaramucci wrote, “Records are made to be broken,” but added, “But I take no pleasure in other people’s pain.”\n\nPrior to her time in the White House, The New Yorker reports Zacharia worked at the Zhong Lun law firm in Beijing and served for less than two months as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security. Her communications background also includes a stint as a commentator at Newsmax.",
