"summary": "Six US lawmakers have written to Secretary of State Marco Rubio over concerns about the detentions of students during protests in India. The lawmakers, including Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, raised worries about \"repression, wrongful detention, and excessive use of force by security forces\" during student protests. They urged Rubio to press the Indian government for \"thorough, transparent, and independent investigations\" into the incidents. This comes after India rejected Jayapal's earlier criticism of the revision of India's electoral rolls, calling it \"unwarranted and uninformed\" and an \"interference in the electoral practices of a fellow democracy\". The lawmakers also expressed concerns over alleged surveillance and intimidation of individuals exercising their rights on US soil by individuals associated with the Indian Embassy and consulates.",
