"summary": "Eduwatch, an education advocacy group, has called for an independent investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS). While praising the interdiction of headmaster Mr. Zakaria Abdulai and the initiation of a criminal investigation, Eduwatch argues that the probe must extend to all officials who may have enabled the abuse to continue. The group cites a JoyNews investigation and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni's reporting, which revealed that at least 16 female students were allegedly sexually abused by the headmaster over a period of more than a year. The abuse allegedly continued despite complaints reaching education authorities, with the Girl Child Coordinator and safeguarding officer petitioning school management in February 2026, and five students reporting allegations to the Municipal Education Directorate in March. Eduwatch questions whether safeguarding, reporting, and referral procedures were followed and highlights concerns about supervisory accountability within the Ghana Education Service (GES).",
