"summary": "The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has called on Nigerian academics and researchers to shift their focus from merely publishing scholarly papers to developing practical innovations that address societal challenges and create economic opportunities. The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr Sonny Echono, made this call during the closing ceremony of the 35th cohort of the Research for Impact Initiative, a partnership between TETFund and Innov8 Technology Hub. Echono emphasized the importance of empowering scholars to create local solutions for societal problems, stating that a commitment to education is a commitment to the nation's future, ensuring that people are not just consumers of foreign technology but innovators who can drive sustainable growth. The initiative aims to institutionalise research and development in public tertiary institutions, enhance research capacity, and support research-industry linkage to foster a knowledge-based economy.",
