"account": "On October 9, mechanic Tan Teek Lai was sentenced to five years in prison for ramming into a police officer, fracturing his left arm. The incident occurred near Damansara Damai. Tan pleaded guilty to attempting to murder corporal Muhamad Firdaus Maulud. Judge Noor Ruzilawati Mohd Nor ordered Tan to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest on October 10. The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum term of 20 years, but Tan's sentence reflects the court's intention to deter similar offenses. Mobile patrol officers first spotted Tan's suspiciously driven vehicle and attempted to stop him, but he fled, ramming into several vehicles. Firdaus tried to pull Tan out of his vehicle, but the driver accelerated again, causing the policeman to fracture his left arm. Tan's defense argued for leniency, citing his responsibility for his elderly and ailing parents and his vow not to commit the offense again. The prosecution sought a harsher sentence, emphasizing public interest and the need to discourage similar actions.",
