"account": "The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has appealed to residents to report instances of illegal waste dumping, emphasizing the collective responsibility needed for a cleaner and healthier city. Illegal dumping poses significant environmental and health risks, such as blocked drainage systems, increased flooding, and the spread of diseases. LAWMA urges citizens to take action by reporting such incidents through their official channels, providing precise location details, time of occurrence, and any supporting information like vehicle descriptions or photographs.\n\nLast year, LAWMA recorded 1,023 cases of illegal dumping and waste management violations. Of these, 447 were referred for legal action involving both males and females. Peak dumping activity occurs between midnight and early morning, with residential refuse, construction debris, and hazardous waste being the most frequently dumped materials. Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of using registered Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for waste collection and avoiding illegal dumping in drains, road medians, or open spaces. Public reports are crucial for identifying problem areas and holding offenders accountable. Residents can reach LAWMA via toll-free numbers 08000052962 and 07080601020, providing precise location information and relevant details during their calls.",
