The 16-year-old suspect forced his way into Silver Rail Elementary School by shooting at locked doors and was subsequently killed by a bystander who pursued him into the building. The three victims, aged five, eight, and eleven, along with a 54-year-old teacher, were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The school's administrative official expressed shock and grief over the tragic event, while the governor praised the bystander's heroic intervention to prevent further loss of life. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek commended the bystander's heroic act, acknowledging the emotional burden they carried. Local media reported that the school had recently installed lockable classroom doors. The community and schools in the area were left stunned, with some parents shocked by the incident. The school was in lockdown during the shooting, and students managed to communicate with parents using their Apple watches.
