"account": "A 16-year-old gunman opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon on Thursday, killing four people, including three students and a teacher, before being shot and killed by an armed community member who pursued the assailant into the school. The victims were a 5-year-old, 8-year-old, and 11-year-old child, along with a 54-year-old teacher and a 7-year-old student who sustained critical injuries. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz stated that the shooter entered the school by firing through locked doors, but provided no further details. Governor Tina Kotek praised the community member who intervened, saying, \"No parent should have to have this kind of day.\" Police train for active shooter situations regularly, and Bend officers conducted full-day training in August. Oregon Governor Kotek emphasized that no community should have to endure such a tragedy, as mass shootings are unfortunately becoming a recurring issue in American society. Gun control advocates, like former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, expressed their heartbreak and called for action from leaders at all levels.",
