"summary": "The Ghanaian government has introduced the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) in the Ahanta West and Mpohor Fiase regions of the Western Region, aiming to formalise small-scale mining, safeguard the environment, and ensure that mining communities reap direct benefits from the country’s mineral resources. During the programme’s launch, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yusif Sulemana, highlighted that responsible mining should extend beyond mere extraction to foster job creation, support local governance, and enhance the living standards of residents. The initiative is being coordinated in collaboration with the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to register and certify mining groups and cooperatives, providing a legitimate and structured framework for small-scale miners to operate within the law while ensuring long-term sustainability of the programme.",
