"account": "Dino Melaye, a former lawmaker from Kogi West, criticized the 10th National Assembly for not providing sufficient oversight of President Bola Tinubu's governance. He specifically targeted Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for their handling of various issues including electoral reforms, budget implementation, and constitutional amendments. Melaye raised his concerns at a press conference in Abuja, questioning the independence of the National Assembly and its ability to scrutinize executive decisions. He highlighted the July 2024 amendment to the Nigeria Police Act, which extended the term of the Inspector-General of Police beyond the usual retirement provisions, and expressed concerns about the speed of its passage. Melaye also questioned the National Assembly's handling of the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, the voting procedure used during the proceedings, and the allocation of budget funds, raising concerns about transparency and oversight.",
