"account": "Doug Deakin's impact has been pivotal in Oklahoma's special teams resurgence under head coach Brent Venables. The Sooners' special teams unit faced criticism during Venables' initial years as coach, ranking 72nd in efficiency in 2022 and falling to 127th in 2023. However, Deakin's arrival marked a turning point. He joined Oklahoma after a stint at his alma mater, the San Diego Aztecs, and led the unit to significant improvements, including a No. 41 ranking in 2022 and a No. 10 ranking last season, with kicker Tate Sandell winning the Lou Groza Award.\n\nDespite a slight dip to No. 38 this season, Deakin's influence remains crucial. A blocked punt for a touchdown proved decisive in the Sooners' upset victory over the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. Venables praised Deakin's coaching abilities and character, noting his diverse background. Deakin's contributions, along with Sandell's dependable kicking, have become essential in turning the tide of games when the offense falters. While the unit still has room for improvement, its recent progress highlights its transformation from the struggles of 2023.",
