"account": "ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile urged workers to remain patient during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, acknowledging it as a significant concern during his keynote address at the 8th FEDUSA Congress. The three-day event, held in Kempton Park near Johannesburg, gathered approximately 500 delegates from organized labor, government, business, and international labor representatives. Mashatile stressed the importance of proactive leadership in a changing economic environment. He emphasized that they could not ignore the frustrations faced by people and that creating jobs, fostering stronger growth, reducing poverty, and tackling inequality were the country's most pressing tasks. In the second quarter of 2026, the economy contracted by 0.2%, with mining, manufacturing, and trade sectors under significant pressure. Addressing the backlash against the ANC from some COSATU leaders, Mashatile stated he would investigate the incident after National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe declined to speak last, citing concerns over alliance traditions. He promised to receive a comprehensive report on the matter.",
