"account": "Ahead of South Africa's 2026 Local Government Elections, the Electoral Commission (IEC) has emphasized the vital role of accurate and trustworthy information. This message came during a gathering in Parkwood, Johannesburg, at the Media Freedom Festival, where professionals from journalism, academia, education, and civil society discussed the importance of media freedom and the threats to the reliability of information. Fikile Moya, IEC's General Manager for Communications, stressed that having access to credible information is essential for voters to make well-informed decisions. Moya explained that ensuring the integrity of information is crucial for the fairness of the elections, as it enables individuals to rely on reliable sources when deciding how to cast their votes. She also highlighted that voters need to know how to seek clarification or where to turn for assistance if they have any doubts about the information they receive.",
