"summary": "Russell Brand appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday as his rape trial commenced. The proceedings are expected to continue into December. Brand faces charges including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.\n\nDuring its opening statement, the prosecution alleged that Brand was “ruthless and calculated” with an “indiscriminate and voracious” desire for sexual contact. NYT Arts reported that the prosecution described Brand as seeing women as “simply a means to an end” during the period the crimes allegedly occurred.\n\nThe actor and comedian has vehemently denied the allegations.",
