"summary": "Mike Shingange has been elected as the new president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), replacing Zingiswa Losi. Shingange, who previously served as the president of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu), secured 973 votes against Mabutho Cele, who received 836 votes. Losi, who vacated the presidency, was elected as the general secretary, making her the first woman to hold the position. Shingange's election comes after months of uncertainty and controversy surrounding his eligibility to stand for the presidency, which was eventually resolved by a legal opinion and a Labour Court ruling. As the new Cosatu president, Shingange will take charge at a critical time for the federation, which has a membership of 1.6 million and remains a significant force in South Africa's industrial relations and political landscape.",
