"account": "The Rugby League World Cup, once envisioned as a bold expansion into North America, now finds itself struggling in its current iteration, but it still presents a crucial opportunity for the sport. In 2016, Nigel Wood, then-chair of the Rugby League International Federation, expressed excitement about the tournament's expansion into the USA and Canada, citing their world-class stadiums and multicultural populations. However, financial concerns led to the bid's withdrawal just two years later, as seen in the aftermath of the Toronto Wolfpack debacle.\n\nFrance stepped in as the new host, with the support of International Rugby League chairman Troy Grant, who emphasized the dream of international rugby league's fruition. But financial concerns once again derailed the plans, leaving Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea to host the four World Cups in one month. This arrangement showcases the sport's Australasian boom, with PNG hosting events in men's, women's, wheelchair, and physical disability categories.\n\nThe tournament's structure has been criticized for being somewhat complex, with England and Tonga facing off in one pool's opener, while Australia and New Zealand are likely to advance to the last four. This leaves the tournament's credibility in question, as Australia's dominance on the pitch may reflect a lack of strategy in promoting international matchups. The proposed deal for NRL investment in Super League, potentially bringing the London Broncos into the top flight, has faced opposition from some stakeholders, but may be a necessary step for Super League to secure its future amidst challenging television rights negotiations.",
