"account": "Berlin - The cost of cigarettes is set to rise in Germany due to new tax plans aimed at generating much-needed revenue and promoting health. The federal government is desperate to find funds to fill its limited coffers. The idea of imposing heavier taxes on cigarettes was initially met with sharp criticism, but the proposed legislation is now almost certain to pass.\n\nThe Bundestag's Finance Committee voted on Wednesday to support the plan, according to attendees. Starting in 2027, tax rates will gradually increase, and by 2030, a 20-cigarette pack could cost nearly four euros more than today. Currently, a pack in Germany averages 8.05 euros, with the price potentially reaching 11.78 euros by 2030.\n\nThe tax hike will also apply to fine cut tobacco for rolling one's own cigarettes, as well as shisha tobacco and liquids for e-cigarettes. The government justifies the proposal as necessary budget consolidation and a means to protect public health. By 2027, the plan is expected to generate tax revenue of 1.5 billion euros.",
