"account": "Duane \"Keffe D\" Davis, the former Los Angeles gang leader accused of ordering the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, was sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison on Tuesday. The sentence came three decades after the 1996 shooting that left the influential hip hop artist dead. Davis, who ran a Crips branch during the 1990s, had evaded justice for years and even wrote in his memoir claiming responsibility but distancing himself from the act. Judge Carli Kierny rejected his claims, emphasizing that Davis cannot escape the consequences of his actions. Shakur, a pivotal figure in the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry, was killed in Las Vegas at the age of 25 following a casino altercation with Shakur's associates. Davis allegedly handed the murder weapon to someone in the white Cadillac that shot Shakur, while the driver of the BMW he was in, Marion \"Suge\" Knight, suffered injuries. Shakur's family paid emotional tribute to the late artist, highlighting his activism and kindness. Davis, however, showed no remorse and vowed to appeal the guilty verdict.",
